Living with asthma? A new research study is enrolling in Australia and New Zealand

About this study

Asthma is a chronic condition that causes inflammation and narrowing of the airways, leading to symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness and shortness of breath. Although many people manage asthma with inhalers and medication, a significant number still experience ongoing symptoms and flare-ups that impact daily life.

This clinical study is evaluating a potential new treatment designed to target airway inflammation associated with asthma. By participating, volunteers help researchers better understand how this treatment may improve asthma outcomes in the future.

Who can take part

You may be eligible if you:

• Are 18 to 65 years old
• Have doctor-diagnosed asthma
• Currently use asthma medication such as inhalers
• Have had asthma symptoms within the past year
• Haven’t used oral steroid tablets for your asthma in the past 2 months
• Are able to attend multiple clinic visits over several months

You cannot take part if you

• Do not currently have doctor-diagnosed asthma
• Have needed steroid tablets recently for asthma flare-ups
• Have had your asthma medication changed in the past few months
• Have another serious respiratory condition
• Are currently taking certain specialist medications
• Are unable to commit to the required clinic visits and follow-up

Final eligibility is determined by the study doctor after screening assessments.

What’s involved

• An initial screening period to confirm eligibility
• Receiving the study treatment or placebo
• Regular clinic visits for monitoring
• Lung function tests and health assessments
• Regular follow-up visits, blood tests and health checks

The study runs for approximately 9 months, including screening, treatment and follow-up. Participants attend 13 scheduled on-site visits so the research team can monitor health, asthma symptoms and response to treatment. The exact timing of visits is explained during screening.

This study has ethics committee approval and is run under Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines at accredited clinical research facilities in Perth, Melbourne and New Zealand. You’ll receive complete study information before consenting, remain under the care of qualified clinicians throughout, and can withdraw at any time.
