What is a clinical trial?
A clinical trial is a research study that tests new treatments to see whether they’re safe and effective. Every trial is run by qualified medical teams and monitored throughout.
Are clinical trials safe?
Every trial we recruit for has been reviewed and approved by a Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) and is run by trained clinical staff under Good Clinical Practice guidelines. You’ll be told all known risks upfront, in writing, before you decide anything.
Do I get paid to take part?
Most studies offer payment for your time and travel. The clinical site sets the amount, and you’ll know the exact details before you join.
What if I don’t qualify for a study?
No stress. With your consent, we’ll keep your details securely on file and let you know when other studies open that might suit you.
Can I leave a trial after it starts?
Yes — you can withdraw at any time, for any reason, without giving an explanation and without it affecting your regular medical care.
How long does a trial take?
It depends on the study. Some run for a few weeks, some for a few months. The clinical team will explain the full schedule upfront before you consent.
Do I need private health insurance?
No. You don’t need private health insurance to join a clinical trial.
Will I have to pay for anything?
No. Participation is free — all study-related treatments, tests and clinic visits are covered by the study. Many studies also reimburse travel costs.
Who contacts me after I apply?
A member of the Sana One triage team usually reaches out first to check basic eligibility by phone. If you’re a potential match, the clinical site running the trial will then contact you to complete formal screening.
What happens in screening?
The clinical team reviews your health history, explains the study in detail, answers your questions, and confirms whether you’re a good fit. You only consent once you’ve had everything explained.
Who supports me during the study?
The clinical site running the trial gives you a dedicated contact you can reach at any time. You’re under the care of qualified clinicians for the whole study.
What happens to my personal information?
Your data is kept private and secure, and is only shared with the clinical team once you say yes. You can opt out at any time. We handle all information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles and the NZ Privacy Act.
Is a clinical trial the same as normal medical care?
Not exactly. A trial is research, not standard treatment — but you’re still looked after by trained health professionals throughout, often with more frequent monitoring than usual care.
How do I hear about new studies?
Join the Sana One participant registry. We’ll let you know when new studies open that match your profile, and you can opt out whenever you like.
